The UC Santa Cruz Office of Emergency Management has begun a project to transition our website to the new WordPress Content Management System. This project includes a complete review of the existing oes.ucsc.edu website and all of its' content. The goals of this project include:
- Ease navigation for first-time users to access commonly used resources, using existing analytics to inform the organization of the website.
- Review and update essential content such as Emergency Procedures and Department Planning Tools.
- Provide additional resources for the campus community including robust personal preparedness information, situational awareness resources, and methods to get involved and communicate with OEM.
- Improve accessibility of website content through ensuring compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ensuring that attached resources additionally meet UCSC's best practices.
With the recent renaming of the Office of Emergency Services (OES) to the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), URLs will also be updated from oes.ucsc.edu to oem.ucsc.edu. A list of redirects of essential resources using the oes.ucsc.edu prefix will be maintained for a limited time to ensure continuity of links from static campus resources such as Department Emergency Action Plans and physical copies of the Emergency Response Guides. New versions of these documents will be created shortly after the publishing of the new website.
With the support of student interns working with OEM, we expect the new website to be published between Summer and Fall 2024. In the meantime, you may experience broken links and outdated resources on the oes.ucsc.edu website while the changes are underway. However, essential information will be kept regularly updated.
As always, please reach out to us at oem@ucsc.edu if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Thanks for your time!
